How it works – downloading screenplays and script coverage, or posting your own
Downloading Scripts
Do you want to read scripts? You've come to the right place!
Just register for full membership, go to our search page, and select
the scripts you want (search by genre, keyword, coverage rating,
coverage service, contest wins...). Upon checkout, you will receive
a link to download the script(s) and any additional materials such as coverage.
The scripts are in .pdf format, preserving the original formatting.
Additional materials are provided as
image files (one per page) that you can print from your browser.
Posting Screenplays and Script Coverage
Have you written an above-average script? Do you think someone might
pay a few dollars to read it? Post it to our site!
You can submit your script and any additional material
such as coverage through the Submission
Page. If you don't have a .pdf file of your script, we convert it for you
free of charge (or follow these instructions to create the .pdf file yourself).
Once your script is "live" it will show up in members' searches.
Every time someone buys a "viewing license" to your script, you earn money.
For example, with a download fee of $10, if just ten members download your script, you make $95.00.
Enough to cover the entry fee for a couple of contests! Expect even more attention if your script placed in a well-known competition
such as the Nicholl Fellowships, Austin Heart of Film, or Scriptapalooza.
Of course, you're just selling single-user reading licenses, not the
movie rights to your script, so you can still sell it to a producer or film studio later.
Why would someone pay money to read your script?
You might ask yourself the above question, especially if you've had a hard time getting agents and producers to read
your script for free. Well, have you ever scoured through lists of
scripts that placed in a particular contest? Or did you come across a really cool cool logline on a website somewhere that made you curious? Or did you get coverage from somewhere, and felt a strong desire to read other people's
scripts and their reviews – just to see if the reviewer was equally tough on others?
Most screenwriters love to read the works of other writers, both for entertainment and as a learning
experience. You can enhance the learning experience by posting a lot of additional information about your script –
what inspired you to write it, how you fared in marketing it, what you learned about creating an effective structure, plot,
characters, and dialogue, and, especially, by posting the coverage you received. Create a complete, personal
experience, beyond posting just the bare script, and your screenplay will receive interest even if it's not perfect.
Another reason to post
Surprisingly, in our short existence, we've already had a lot of membership sign-ups from industry professionals. Their e-mail
addresses identify them as agents, producers, managers, and even employees at larger studios. Posting your script on Scripts-and-Coverage.com gives you valuable exposure, and might even lead to contacts that (eventually) could lead to
your big breakthrough. Stranger things have happened.
On our site, you have a little bit more room to promote your script, compared with the traditional three-paragraph query letter. If an industry exec feels a spark of interest they can read more about you, your script, and even download the whole script right away, if they pay your download fee. This instant access can make all the difference in today's Hollywood, where interest can pop up quickly, and disappear just as fast. Industry execs can use Scripts-and-Coverage.com as a way to discover new talent while preserving their own anonymity.
E-mail alerts
Every time someone downloads your screenplay you'll receive an e-mail alert with information about
the funds you earned. On your account's
History Page you can look up
how often your script was downloaded, and how often your detail pages have been viewed. This information
can be very helpful, especially if you've posted several scripts and want to know which one generates the most interest!
You'll also see the initials of the person who downloaded your script. (Scripts-and-Coverage.com does not give
out full names or e-mail addresses.)
Feedback
Readers of your script can send comments to you about your script.
At Scripts-and-Coverage.com, you can be sure that the readers' interest in your work is genuine –
after all, they paid money to read it! You can respond to the feedback, too, and create a threaded
discussion about your script.
A comment is made public (viewable in the "Script Detail View") only if both the
author and the reader decide to make
it public. By default, all commments are private. If someone leaves a comment you strongly
disagree with, just keep it private – or delete it. You can use positive comments to further promote your scripts.
Comments that are set "public" by the script author and the script reader will show up on the "Latest Public Comments" page (accessible from the drop-down menu) and help draw
attention to your script.
Security
The names of the people
who downloaded your screenplay are not disclosed; however, they are stored in our
database, which adds a level of security. All users of this site
enrolled using their credit card, which adds another layer of
security.
Transaction Fee
Every month, you'll receive a payment of
what you've earned in the month prior. You can opt to receive the balance by check or by
PayPal. Scripts-and-Coverage.com takes a
5% transaction fee per
download ($0.20 minimum) to cover expenses for maintaining the site,
credit card processing fees* and postage fees.
Now's the time!
Our database only contains a few scripts right now, because we're just getting started! Some of the genres
posted right now are: Thriller, Romantic Comedy, Supernatural Drama, all posted with coverage from well-known
companies and coverage services, with ratings from "good" to "fair." Register for FREE
as a basic member and browse our database.
If you're thinking about
posting a script, this is a good time, because your script will be part of a small but exclusive collection and
draw the interest from anyone who comes here to find reading material. To post a script
register as a full member and proceed to the
script submission page.
*Our credit card processor, 2checkout.com, takes a 5.5% commission plus $0.45 per transaction.
